Off Topic

I’m going to stray a bit from my usual sexuality-related politics to address something else that has been filling up my news feed on social media lately.  There is a woman named Brittany Maynard who courageously shared her personal experiences with brain cancer and her advocacy for end-of-life measures.  For those of you who haven’t seen these articles, she is terminal, and has decided to use medical aid in dying.  She researched other methods of treatment, worked with doctors and with her family, and finally moved states to responsibly acquire this option.  However, as soon as she posted an account of this online, people began objecting.  It prompted the writing of an article titled “Dear Brittany.”  Now, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  However, this whole post chastises her use of “suicide” to escape suffering.  It comes from another terminal cancer patient who feels that her view on death must also apply to Brittany.  You would think that someone else in a similar position would understand better…
